The Deseret News honored Westlake runner Michael Moffat as one of their athletes of the week for week 2 of high school sports. In the article, it stated, “[Moffat] enjoyed a dominant performance at the Viking Invite at Pleasant Grove High School last week. The junior [sic] posted a great time of 15:19.2 against a strong field of runners, beating teammate Jedidiah Megargel by nine seconds.”
Moffat’s victory at the Viking Invite was his second victory of the season, following up his first place finished at the Westlake Classic posting a time of 15:13.3 and looks to challenge amongst a strong field at this weeks Timpanogos Invite.
Senior Jedidiah Megargel has been having a strong season finishing second in his first two races posting times of 15:36.5 and 15:28.7 at the Westlake Classic and Viking Invite respective. This 1-2 punch looks prepared to make a statement as the season goes on towards the 6A State Championships.
Overall, Westlake runners are putting in strong performances on both the mens and women’s sides at the Viking Invite. Behind Moffat and Megargel, teammates Tyler Hudson (Sr), Chase Durham (So), Logan Lundgren (Sr), Steven Keogh (So), and Ozkar Jensen (Sr) placed 18th, 21st, 29th, 34th, and 47th respectively for a 3rd place.
On the women’s side, Makayla Pitcher (Jr), Alivia Scoresby (Sr), Shelby Jensen (So), Ari James (So), Austyn Feller (Fr), Aliyah Gunter (Sr), and Lydia Duckworth (Fr) placed 6th, 13th, 16th, 25th, 27th, 38th, and 46th respectively for a 3rd place finish as well.
