Varsity Cross Country · XC Turns Focus to Out of State Meets

Coming off strong performances at the 6A state race, Cross Country has shifted their focus to the NXN Southwest meet in Arizona on November 22nd and the Footlocker West Region meet in December.

Though the men’s team didn’t qualify for the state race due to being in the deep region 4 (and the controversial state qualifying standards), they proved their ability with top 10 finishes by Michael Moffat and Jed Megargel (8th and 9th). As well as a top 50 finish by Nicolas Jones (47th). The women’s team finished 4th in the state behind a top 10 performance by Emma Heslop (7th) and top 50 performance by the rest of the scorers Makayla Pitcher, Shelby Jensen, Kanza Allen, and Abby Barus (21st, 28th, 24th, and 42nd respectively).

The out of state meets are great opportunities for the runners to match themselves agains out of state talent. The state runners are expected to give strong performances and possibly get personal records (PRs) or even season bests. All runners have worked hard this season, and for those not on the state team this is a culmination of their season and a chance to exhibit all the work that they have put in this season.
