Westlake Wrestling beat a quality opponent on Thursday night winning 43-34. The win puts Westlake in position to take 2nd place in the region. The Thunder started out on a roll. Starting out at 126lb, Austin Petty pinned his opponent in under a minute. Calvin Bishop then pinned his opponent at 132lb. Then at 138lb, Trent Taylor, losing 2-1, pinned his opponent in the second round. Bingham came back with 2 wins of their own at 145 and 152. But Ethan Shunn, Micah Butler, and Anthony Stockwell got things back on track with pins of their own.
The biggest upset of the night came at 220lb with Weston Bartlett winning a thriller 2-1 against 4th ranked Brevan Butterfield of Bingham. Jacob Finlinson also got a quick pin at 113lb.
Overall the Westlake Wrestlers performed well. With both the JV and Varsity winning the night. So far Westlake’s only region loss came at the hands of Pleasant Grove, who has already wrapped up the region crown.
